Reflections

Here are two poems.  Written in reflection, connected somehow.  The school year is coming to a close.  Sigh.

“ghost words”
(for the invisible man)

you hide, black/white shadows
between set piano keys
floating in a fleeting melody of meaning,
what it means to be black/white today.

i, too, carry the tune
soft on my chapped white lips
and rooted deep, in the black
of my mind.

play on, ghost player.
the world needs your prayer.

“ordinary men”
(for A.B., an inspiration)

kill. are not
ordinary,
do not bear
witness
to atrocity, ignore
heaven on earth
in preference
for a grave
in the ground, shot
two women two children
dead. kill
because “they told
me to.” because
orders are orders
and lives are
nothing.
